Therapist Wake Forest | Status of Mental Health Roundtable

May 17, 2022 by Tabitha Westbrook

Wake Forest Counseling

Tabitha Westbrook, LMFT, LCHMC, LPC, CCTP, therapist in Wake Forest, NC, sat down with some incredible colleagues to talk about the status of mental health. In this video, Tabitha, Rebecca Williams, LMFT, Yolanda Harper, LCSW, and Erika Labuzan-Lopez, LMFT, LPC-S take on tough topics. The panel discusses the medical and venture capital models of mental health care and how they can negatively impact those seeking help. Most importantly, the team discusses what good therapy looks like. We hope this helps you better understand some things about mental healthcare – but most importantly that it helps you find amazing care for yourself and family!

In our first segment, the group discusses the medical model of care. This model is fraught with challenges for people hoping to use their insurance to access care. The team talks about the pitfalls and how this model actually can make care less available to folks who are seeking it, like those looking for a Wake Forest therapist.

In the second segment we talk about the venture capitalist model of care. There are tons of ads for “accessible” online therapy with texting options, but there can be pitfalls consumers don’t know about. Can these companies really provide quality mental health care? What are some client provider experiences? What should be people know about these companies as they consider getting mental health care. The fact is there are great, accessible, online options that will actually cost you less in the long run.

Finally, we talk about what good mental healthcare should look like. We all are passionate providers who want people to get good therapy and not all therapy is created equal. We talk about what good care looks like so you know what to look for as you seek a provider, like a therapist in Wake Forest or anywhere. There can be such confusing information out there and we wanted to help folks make informed decisions about their care.

Our Wake Forest team specializes in complex trauma, PTSD, abuse, and anxiety. We see kiddos ages 5+, teens, adults, and couples. If you’d like to get more information about our team and see if we can help you, reach out here for your free, 15-minute consultation today!
