Why do therapy intensives?
Have you ever gotten to the end of an hour of therapy and thought, “Dangit! I was just getting started!!” Do you want to get farther, faster? It can be tough to set aside an hour per week for therapy and sometimes it feels like that hour goes by at breakneck speed. Regular, weekly therapy can be awesome, but sometimes you just need that deep dive – away from distractions and with the time to really go deep. Let’s be honest – this world can be a really hard and painful place. One hour a week just isn’t enough for you. That’s where therapy intensives can be awesome.
What are therapy intensives like?
We tailor each intensive to you and your needs. We strongly recommend your first intensive be at least two days, and can be up to three. For folks who have done an intensive with us before or who are weekly clients we also offer one day options (if you’re a local client we also can do half-day options). Our days are full days – we start at 9AM and end at 5PM, with a 1.5 hour break for lunch on your own. Each intensive is experiential in nature – we’ll use things like art therapy, EMDR, brainspotting, etc. – to help you meet your goals. We may even schedule a massage or equine therapy as part of your intensive process.
Each new client has a one-hour consultation with your therapist so we can learn more about you and what your goals are for the intensive. These consultations are typically done via video at least one week prior to the therapy intensive. If you are local to the office you will be seen at, these also can be done in person.
What is treated?
Intensives can be used to treat a variety of things. Here are a few:
- Trauma, including abuse
- Family issues
- Marital/Relationship issues, including infidelity
- Personal growth
Who is a good fit for an intensive?
You’re a good fit for an intensive if you are ready to do the deep work. You’re ready to set aside the time to focus, without distractions, on your stuff. You’re ready to see movement. Your tired of feeling stuck or watching that therapy hour whiz by and having to wait til the next week to do more work. You are ready for deep change and are willing to do what it takes.
What is included?
A pre-intensive consultation meeting with your therapist to get to know you and better understand your goals. This allows your therapist to put together an intensive uniquely tailored to you. You also get a post-intensive consultation meeting with your therapist to check in on progress. Additional consultation meetings may be scheduled as needed for an additional fee.
The days of the intensive include one-on-one time with your highly skilled & trained therapist doing deep trauma work. Modalities may include art therapy, EMDR, brainspotting, somatic work, play, and any other intervention your therapist knows will help you move forward in healing.
Intensives that are 2+ days in our Texas office also include equine therapy (weather permitting) & there is an optional add-on for trauma-focused massage therapy.
Intensives in our North Carolina office include forest bathing (weather permitting).
