The Journey and The Process would like to introduce LaTonya MontClaire as part of our Wake Forest counseling team. LaTonya is our AMAZING clinical resident intern and clients are loving working with her. We thought we’d take a minute to let you get to know her. She might just be the counselor you have been looking for!
Why did you decide to become a therapist?
I decided to become a therapist because I am truly fulfilled when I am able to help individuals, couples, and families journey through and overcome obstacles they face in life.
What is your favorite thing about your work with clients?
As human beings, it is inevitable that we will experience emotional hurts and challenges as we interact with one another. However, to be given the opportunity to witness an individual transform his/her thinking and behavior to experience healing from hurts and become healthy and happy gives me pure joy.
What is something you wish people knew about counseling?
I wish people knew that counseling is not labeling or judging who they are or what they’ve done or experienced. It’s a place of safety, healing, and hope for a new way to journey through life and become free.
What would you like to say to someone who isn’t sure whether counseling can help them?
I would ask them to give it a try and make the conversation personal. I would share that I’ve done it before and it really helped me get to a better place in my life.
Share a fun fact about you:
I love singing and decorating! I sing on my worship team at church and love decorating for friends and family!
