The Journey and The Process would like to introduce Katherine Jackson as part of our Wake Forest counseling team. Katherine is our AMAZING clinical resident intern and clients are loving working with her. We thought we’d take a minute to let you get to know her. She might just be the counselor you have been looking for!
Why did you decide to become a therapist?
I decided to become a therapist because I have a passion for people who are hurting. I believe that therapy is one of the tools God can use to help people heal. Through therapy, I was able to see God in a whole new way and I am excited to see other people go through their own experience and find healing.
What is your favorite thing about your work with clients?
My favorite thing about working with clients is learning about their story that is specific to them. I believe that every person was created in a unique way and I love finding out what their strengths are – and helping them see their strengths, too!
What is something you wish people knew about counseling?
What would you like to say to someone who isn’t sure whether counseling can help them?
If someone is not sure counseling is for them, I would tell them that it’s okay to be unsure! It is vital that a person find a counselor who they connect with and feel is a good fit. I think people often go to one session and feel uncomfortable so they never go again. Shopping for a therapist is something that may be necessary for long-term success (we have blog posts here and here that can help you ask questions to determine the best fit). Do not be afraid to speak up and say what you need!
Share a fun fact about you:
A fun fact about me is that while I am not generally a risk-taker or adrenaline junkie, I jumped out of an airplane (cried on the way up) but surprised myself and did it! I’ll also never do it again.
Katherine is located in our Wake Forest counseling office and sees clients both in person and via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. Katherine has some evening and Saturday hours as well for those who are negotiating work or school schedules. She specializes in working with individuals ages 14 and up who are struggling with anxiety, overcoming past or present traumatic experiences, or struggling with identity. She also works with couples to help them have the best relationships possible! As an intern, Katherine offers low-cost sessions to help make counseling available to more people. To learn more about the difference between an intern and a fully licensed counselor this is a great article!
